Please contact the Admissions Officer on 0161 866 0130 to discuss the availability of places and dates of testing.

Even if your child were to be assessed as suitable for a Grammar School it would not guarantee them a place

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No fees are payable

Stretford Grammar School has its own entrance examination and admission arrangements.  These will be widely advertised in the local press and are summarised below.

  • You must register your child to take the Stretford Grammar School entrance examination.  It will take place on Saturday 9 October 2010.  The supplementary examination will take place on Monday 1 November 2010.
  • To register you should fill in the enclosed application form and return it to the school with two passport sized photographs before 4pm on Friday 24 September 2010.  Your child should have a date of birth between 1 September 1999 and 31 August 2000.
  • If you feel that there are any special circumstances that might affect your child’s performance on 9 October 2010 it is important that you let us know on the special circumstances form which will be sent on receipt of your application form.

If your child is ill on the day of the exam please notify us as soon as possible on that day.  Again we will try to make alternative arrangements if you return the special circumstances form to us, together with a doctor’s note in the immediate week after the examination.

What will the entrance examination be like?
There will be a verbal reasoning test, a non-verbal reasoning test and a mathematics test.  The content of the maths test will be very similar to the sort of maths that your child will have covered at KS2 in their primary school.  There will also be a short extended writing test which is used for review purposes only.  The Trafford 11+ consisted of similar style tests.

Copies of practice tests in verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and maths can be purchased from Stretford Grammar School during term time at a cost of £9.99 each.  We strongly advise that parents familiarise their child with these types of tests and the multiple choice answer sheets.

What if my child needs to leave the examination to use the toilet?
No extra time will be allowed if your child needs to leave the examination for any reason.  However, they will be allowed a short break in the middle of the examination, when they can go to the toilet and have a drink.

When will my child know if they have gained a place?
We shall write to parents of all applicants letting them know the outcome of the examination at Stretford Grammar School as soon as we are able by first class post.

Trafford LA will offer places to pupils who qualified up to 128 places.  Should there be more qualified candidates than places then the over-subscription policy will be implemented.

If you are over-subscribed how do you award places?
If the number of qualifying applicants is greater than the number of places available, then the places will be awarded in accordance with our admission criteria as stated in our Admissions Policy.

What happens once we have accepted a place?
When we have received your completed acceptance and admission forms we shall acknowledge your acceptance and invite your child to an induction session.

My child gained a qualifying score but was not offered a place – what can we do?
Your child’s name will be placed on a reserved list.  Some children who are initially offered places also qualify for other schools in the area and on occasions do not take up their place at Stretford Grammar School.  Normally we should be able to offer a number of places in this way.

Appeals procedure
There is an Independent Committee for when parents consider appeals.  If we do not offer your child a place we will advise you about how to appeal.

But what if ....?
If there is anything else you wish to know about the school or for an admission into another year, please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions Officer, Sharon Campbell, on 0161 866 0130 between 9.30am and 2.30pm.

Reminder
The enclosed application form should be returned to the school as soon as possible, but not later than 4pm on Friday 24 September 2010.

Any special circumstances that might affect your child’s performance should be notified to the school using the special circumstances form which will be forwarded with the further details once your application form has been received.
