This year the school is taking part in BookBuzz, a nationwide initiative that promotes reading for pleasure:
Bookbuzz is a reading programme from Book Trust, which supports schools to encourage reading for pleasure, independent choice and develop a whole school reading culture.
Participating schools give their students the opportunity to choose their own book to keep from a list of 17 titles suitable for 11 – 13-year-olds and selected by a panel of experts.
This is a special gift from the library to encourage students to give reading a try, whether they are confident readers or not keen on reading at all!
Each student will be asked to choose one of these books to keep and take home:
There is a special display in the library for everyone to have a look and make their decisions accordingly.
Also there will be two competitions to keep buzzing about these books: Best Book Review & Best Alternative Book Cover.
Children should get their books just before Christmas and the competitions will run until the end of the school year.
There are tones of useful information and tips for parents and carers to support this initiative at home, including a video with a description of each book and a number of students talking about the reasons why they chose these titles to be selected for the initiative:
Do check out their website and keep encouraging your children to read for pleasure.
But remember, when it comes to choosing a book to read, IT IS UP TO THEM TO DECIDE!!!
