One of the factors that Trafford take into account when allocating the budget is the number of students who are eligible for free school meals, £400 is added to our budget for each student that is registered. You do not have to claim your meal in school, but you do have to make sure that you have registered if you are eligible.

How do I know if I am eligible for free school meals?

Your parents must receive one of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Support under Park VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child Tax Credit provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit (you are not entitled to free school meals if you claim Working Tax Credit).

Will other students know that I get free school meals?

No. Our cashless catering system means that there are no “tickets”: you claim your lunch using your thumbprint like all other students.
