The first Inter-house lip-sync battle was a huge success on Wednesday afternoon with competitors drawn from all year groups. A vigorous performance of Beyonce’s “All the Single Ladies” by Maddie Bushby, Nuha Imithiyas and Aayah Alturk from year seven was a strong opening act for Dakin. Year 10 were handsomely represented: Blessmore Shonhiwa sang FloRida’s “In the House” for Wolfendale; Ashwell’s Anas Gelidi brought the house down with his hilarious dance routine to “Chandelier”; while William Stephenson and Sean Donald from Dakin ‘swung’ their way through Tom Jones’ “It’s not Unusual.” But ultimately it was Pankhurst’s day. A professional and imaginatively choreographed rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” fronted by Ellen Shillito and Jennifer Jones of year 13 gained second place. And Charlie Buckley’s fabulously flamboyant miming to the Weather Girl’s “It’s Raining Men” (complete with umbrella) was the judges’ unanimous favourite and the deserved winner for Pankhurst. The Hall was full, all Houses were enthusiastically supported and all monies raised on the door will be shared equally between the house charities. It looks likely to become a yearly house event!
