Our SPORTS DAY report

RECORDS TUMBLE AS DAKIN TRIUMPH

On a perfect day for Athletics, records tumbled as Dakin House took the spoils on Sports Day. The highlight of the day was the Boys Year 7 High Jump where the record was smashed by TWO competitors in an event worthy of the Olympics! Both Adam Watson and Dominic Reid both cleared 1m 54cm in a contrast of techniques, but it was Dominic who won the event on count back, as he had knocked the bar off the least number of times at previous heights. This capped a great day for him as he added to this title by winning the boys 800m.

Not to be overshadowed in the record breaking stakes was Year 8’s Sandy McGuinness who broke the Boys High Jump record by clearing 1m 59cm. This capped a fantastic morning in the High Jump, which also saw Yr 10 girl Soria Nicholson adding the High Jump title along with the Triple Jump crown.

The best performing athlete, in terms of multiple event wins was Year 9’s Olivia Taylor. Her outstanding display saw her take three titles on the day; the Javelin, Shot Putt and Long Jump.

Additional multiple winners were:

Year 7’s

 Molly Rankine – Javelin & 100m

Xavi Myers – Triple Jump & Discus

Louis O’Rourke – Long Jump & Javelin

Year 8’s

Deji Hayes – Javelin & Long Jump

Yaseen Yaqub – Shot Putt & Discus

 Year 9

Eoin Ritchie – Javelin & Long Jump

Dakin ran out worthy winners and House Leader, Mr Hillary, was justifiably proud of the efforts demonstrated by all competitors, whether they won their event or simply competed, as every point contributed to the win. We will see next year if Ashwell can win back the title, or whether a new challenge emerges from Wolfendale or Pankhurst.

Congratulations to everyone who took part

Mr Ramalli
