Sixth Form

Stretford Grammar has long enjoyed a tradition of having a strong Sixth Form. Many of our Year 11 students choose to stay on into the Sixth Form where they are joined by a number of young people who come to us from other schools.

Becoming a Sixth Form student in a school is very special. You are the senior pupils in the school and as such receive privileges of dress, access to facilities and freedom of movement. Most importantly there is continuity of learning by specialist teachers who know you well and are therefore well placed to ease the transition from GCSE to Advanced Level Study.

We can offer you the ‘rigour’ of a grammar school education coupled with the freedom of a ‘college environment’.

Each year brings many excellent examination results with over 90% of our Sixth Form Students going on to universities throughout the country, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Entrance Criteria

For Sixth Form entry, there is no catchment and no entrance examination. To be able to join the Sixth Form you must achieve at least four grade B and one grade C at GCSE. However, in popular subject areas competition for places on our courses means that preference will be given to students with the highest grades.

“Joining SGS in upper Sixth, I was expecting the transition from a college to a grammar school to be quite overwhelming. It was the complete opposite! The friendly student tutor relationships and encouragement to participate in activities is so welcoming. We are given freedom as well as maximum academic support giving us the best of both worlds! I am lucky to have got a place here and have already fully prepared myself for further education. The lessons are bite size and effective.”

“I have attended Stretford Grammar since Year 7 and the fact that I have created a great bond with all of my teachers means I always have somewhere to go when in difficulty. They are happy to help with anything I ask. The best word I have to describe our Sixth Form is ‘Family’.”
