An Argument for Atheism
The RE staff and Y13 students attended an audience with the renowned atheist and international author, Richard Dawkins at Manchester’s Royal Exchange on 24th September. The audience entitled – An Argument for Atheism explored the negative impact of religion in society and how science had shown religion to be wrong. Covering scholars such as Spinoza, Ayer and Hume, students learnt about the development of atheism from the time of Darwin to the present day. Leaving with a copy of Dawkins’ latest book – Outgrowing God, this interesting speech served as revision for the Philosophy A Level where they have studied the new atheists such as Dawkins as scholars who oppose religion.
