Footballing success

The girls travelled to Wellington High for what would be their toughest challenge yet.

Stretford started brighter and Ruby Myin drew a good save from the goalkeeper to force a corner. From the resulting corner, Hannah Cook finished clinically from close range to make it 1-0 to the girls from Granby Road.  A highly rated opposition made up of a well drilled, mainly Year 9 team showed their physical superiority and drew a number of excellent saves from Princess Cole in goal before finally levelling and then taking a 3-1 lead into half-time.

The second half proved a tougher challenge and despite excellent passages of play, with passing from front to back by SGS, they were unable to add to their tally and Wellington were victorious. It is often said we learn more in defeat than victory and the girls learned they had resilience in the face of difficulty and kept working to the final whistle.

On the bright side, the girls wore their new football kit and looked as professional as their performance. Well done to all the Year 7’s, 8’s and 9’s involved. The team awarded Hannah Cook and Emma Horsely joint Players of the Match.
