Year 11 Recharge: Adventure and Teamwork at Condover Hall

Relaxation come rain or shine!

Last weekend, our Year 11 students swapped their revision guides for harnesses and hiking boots as they headed to Condover Hall in Shropshire for a well-deserved three-day retreat. The aim of the trip was simple: to provide our hardworking students with a chance to relax, recharge, and bond as a year group before the final push toward their GCSE exams.

Nestled in the heart of the Shropshire countryside, Condover Hall is a stunning Elizabethan manor house steeped in history. While the Grade I listed building looks like something out of a period drama, its grounds are a hub of high-octane adventure. From the historic dormitories to the "healthy and hearty" meals in the dining hall, the centre provided the perfect backdrop for our students to step outside their comfort zones.

Despite the "changeable" British weather, the rain failed to dampen the spirits of our resilient Year 11s. Following the preferences of the students themselves, the itinerary was packed with the most popular activities. Groups challenged themselves on the high ropes, trapeze, the climbing wall, laser conquest and survival. It was fantastic to see students supporting one another through every challenge, proving that teamwork truly makes the dream work!

In a world dominated by social media, this retreat offered a rare "digital detox." Students kept their mobile phones safely in their rooms during the day, ensuring they were fully present for the activities and each other. Without the distraction of notifications, the atmosphere at mealtimes and during evening activities was vibrant, filled with genuine conversation and laughter.

Trip leader Miss Ashall praised the cohort for their conduct and maturity throughout the weekend:

"It was a pleasure to see our Year 11s enjoying some well-earned downtime. They embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, and seeing them support one another—away from the pressures of the classroom and the distractions of social media—was wonderful. They have returned to Stretford as a stronger, more united year group, ready to tackle their upcoming exams with a refreshed mindset."

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the staff who made this trip possible, and to the students for being such excellent ambassadors for Stretford Grammar School.

Welcome back, Year 11—now, let’s carry that "survival" spirit into the exam season!
