A Masterpiece in Marzipan!

Ethan’s Bake Off Triumph
We are absolutely thrilled to share some delicious news from the Year 7 students! This past weekend, our very own Ethan took part in the prestigious Manchester Inter-School Bake Off, and he didn't just bring his A-game—he brought a gallery-worthy masterpiece. Competing against dozens of talented young bakers from across the Greater Manchester area, Ethan secured an incredible second-place finish.
The Manchester Bake Off is known for its gruelling "Technical Signature" round, where students are asked to blend culinary skill with a specific academic theme. This year’s theme was "Art History in a Tin." Ethan rose to the challenge by drawing inspiration from the French modernist painter, Henri Matisse. While many opted for traditional floral designs, Ethan’s cake featured bold, vibrant "cut-out" shapes made of hand-tinted fondant, mimicking Matisse’s famous Blue Nude and The Snail.
A Word from the Art Department
The school's Art and Design department has been buzzing with pride since the announcement. Mrs. Penny-Collins, who has been guiding Ethan’s creative development this term, was particularly moved by his ability to translate canvas to cake.
"Ethan has an extraordinary eye for composition. To see him take the fluid, organic shapes of Matisse’s later works and translate them into a three-dimensional edible medium was truly impressive. He didn't just bake a cake; he curated a dessert. It’s a proud moment for the Art department and the whole school!" — Mrs. Penny-Collins, Art Teacher
