Stretford Grammar Athletes Shine at Trafford Boys Athletics Meet

On Thursday 21st May, 29 students from Years 7, 9, and 10 proudly represented Stretford Grammar School at the Trafford Boys Athletics Competition. The event was held at Longford Park Athletics Stadium—a fantastic local venue with a long history of supporting our school, and the familiar home of Stretford Grammar’s own annual Sports Day.

Throughout the day, our athletes demonstrated excellent determination, resilience, and sportsmanship while competing against top talent from schools across the Trafford area. Their commitment and enthusiasm were evident in every event, and they represented our school community exceptionally well.

A major highlight of the competition was the performance of our Year 9 boys' team, who secured an impressive third place overall in the competition. This achievement reflects the hard work, practice, and dedication shown by the team throughout the athletics season.

There were also several outstanding individual performances that turned heads trackside. Johnny (Year 9) delivered a remarkable, dominant display in the shot put. He recorded a combined distance of over 25 metres across his throws to finish first overall in the event. To put Johnny’s incredible strength into perspective, a combined distance like this puts him within striking distance of the performance metrics seen in national youth development records for his age group. Luca (Year 7) showed incredible composure on the track, winning his 100m heat with a blistering time of 13.05 seconds. For a Year 7 athlete, dipping so close to the 13-second mark is an elite baseline, mirroring the early times of athletes who go on to compete for national youth records.

Reflecting on the day's success, PE teacher Miss Worswick praised the squad's attitude:

"I am incredibly proud of every single one of our 29 students. Competing at a historic venue like Longford Park always brings out the best in our athletes, but seeing the sportsmanship and drive today was truly special. From Luca's lightning pace to Johnny's powerhouse throws, and the brilliant third-place trophy for Year 9, it was a fantastic team effort. They were excellent ambassadors for Stretford Grammar."

We extend our massive congratulations to everyone involved for a fantastic achievement. The future of Stretford Grammar athletics looks incredibly bright!
