Record-Breaking Success at the Trafford Athletics Competition!

On Wednesday 3rd June, athletes from Years 7–10 proudly represented the school at the prestigious Trafford Athletics Competition held at Longford Park. Competing against 13 formidable schools from across the borough, our students demonstrated outstanding determination, talent, and sportsmanship throughout the day. It was a historic afternoon for our sports department, resulting in numerous podium finishes and an incredible three competition records being shattered.

Year 7: Podium Finishes and Double Record Breakers

Our Year 7 squad enjoyed a particularly triumphant competition. With eight athletes representing the school, the team finished an impressive 3rd overall out of the 13 competing schools.

  • Flo: Dominated the track and field, winning the 200m in an excellent 29.89 seconds, and taking 1st place in the long jump.
  • Betsy: Showed incredible endurance to win the 800m with a fantastic time of 2 minutes 41 seconds.
  • The Relay Team: Gabby, Flo, Betsy, and Martha produced a brilliant, cohesive performance to finish 3rd on the podium.

Record Breakers: The Year 7s also made history on Wednesday. Betsy officially broke the Trafford Girls' Athletics Record for the 800m (2:41), while Flo smashed the Long Jump Record with a phenomenal winning leap of 4.10m!

Year 8: Resilience and Victory

The Year 8 girls performed superbly across a range of track and field events, with eight athletes giving their all for the school. They showed immense grit and determination against tough competition, securing fantastic results:

  • Rufta: Claimed gold, winning the javelin competition with an impressive throw of 13.75m.
  • Tilly: Secured a brilliant 2nd place in the 200m, crossing the line in exactly 31 seconds.
  • Cece: Earned a fantastic 3rd place in a highly competitive 100m sprint.

Year 10: Dominance on the Track and Field

Ten athletes represented the Year 10 team, delivering mature and powerful performances across the board to secure top spots:

  • Tomisin: Produced an outstanding, lightning-fast performance in the 100m, taking 1st place with a time of 14.8 seconds.
  • Darcey: Utterly dominated the discus competition, throwing an immense 22.9m to secure 1st place.

Record Breaker: A special mention must go to Darcey. Her remarkable discus throw not only earned her the gold medal but also officially broke the Longford Park record, marking the school's third record-breaking achievement of the day.

A Word from the PE Department

"I could not be prouder of the girls," said PE teacher Miss Baker. "To compete against 13 schools and come away with so many podium finishes is fantastic, but to break three long-standing records in a single day is simply unforgettable. Every single athlete from Year 7 to 10 showed incredible commitment, cheered each other on, and represented our school values perfectly. They have set a new standard for school sport!"

Congratulations to all of the athletes who took part. Your hard work, commitment, and enthusiasm were evident to everyone at Longford Park. You should be extremely proud of your achievements—especially Betsy, Flo, and Darcey, whose record-breaking performances will be remembered for years to come!
