Year 8 Artists Bring Colour to the Community

A colourful splash in the local community!

This term, Year 8 art students at Stretford Grammar School have been rolling up their sleeves and making a meaningful mark on the local area as part of an inspiring community project. The initiative, focused on transforming the 'pocket park' on the corner of Lime Road and Edge Lane, has seen students using their creativity to breathe new life into the space. Over recent weeks, they’ve been hard at work painting the benches with bold, eye-catching designs and will soon turn their attention to brightening up the planters with vibrant, student-led artwork.

Not only is the project helping to enhance a well-used local green space, but it’s also giving students a valuable opportunity to connect with the community and see how their artistic skills can make a real difference. Mrs Penny-Collins, Curriculum Leader for Art, shared her pride in the students' efforts: “It’s been wonderful to see our Year 8 students so engaged and enthusiastic. They’ve really taken ownership of the project, and their designs have brought a fresh energy to the park. This is art with purpose – creative, collaborative, and community-focused.

The transformation of the pocket park is already turning heads and drawing compliments from local residents, who have praised the students for their hard work and imaginative designs. With more artistic touches still to come, the project is a shining example of how young people can positively shape their environment through creativity and teamwork.
