Stretford Grammar’s Sweet Success for Macmillan

A bake off to remember!

Last Friday, the school hall was filled with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked treats as students and staff came together for Stretford Grammar’s annual Macmillan Bake Sale. The event was a heartwarming success, raising funds and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that provides emotional, practical, and financial support to people living with cancer and their families. From towering sponges to delicate cupcakes, the bake sale showcased the culinary talents of our school community. Staff members joined in the fun too — Mrs McCarthy surprised everyone with a quirky and creative fish-shaped cake, Miss Lees brought in a deliciously moist banana loaf, and Mr Deavall wowed the crowd with a Victoria sponge that looked straight out of a baking show finale!

The event also featured a friendly baking competition, judged across three categories: Large Cakes, Tray Bakes, and Cupcakes/Small Cakes. The winners were:

Large Cakes

  • Barirah (8S)
  • Anna (8O) and Summer (11E)
  • Bailey (9T)

Tray Bakes

  • 1st: Amrita (13R)
  • 2nd: Theo (8E)
  • 3rd: Dylan (11T)

Cupcakes/Small Cakes

  • 1st: Lubna (9S)
  • 2nd: Orla (10E)
  • 3rd: Diana (11S)

The event was organised by Miss Hayton, who shared her thoughts: “It was wonderful to see so many students and staff getting involved. The creativity and effort that went into the baking was incredible, and it’s all for such an important cause. Macmillan does amazing work supporting people through some of the toughest times in their lives — we’re proud to contribute.” Thank you to everyone who baked, bought, and supported the event. Together, we’ve made a meaningful difference — one slice at a time.
