Take 10 to Read Event

Stretford Grammar School Unites for National Literacy Trust’s “Take 10 to Read” Event

Today, the entire Stretford Grammar School community came together to celebrate the joy of reading as part of the National Literacy Trust’s “Take 10 to Read” initiative. In a powerful demonstration of the school’s commitment to literacy and wellbeing, students and staff paused for ten minutes during each lesson to immerse themselves in a book of their choice.

The “Take 10 to Read” campaign encourages schools across the country to dedicate ten minutes to reading, highlighting the positive impact it can have on mental health, focus, and creativity. At Stretford Grammar, the event was embraced wholeheartedly, with classrooms filled with quiet concentration and the turning of pages.

Mrs Baker, Literacy Coordinator at Stretford Grammar, shared her thoughts on the day:

It was wonderful to see the whole school engaged in reading together. These ten minutes gave students a chance to slow down, reflect, and enjoy the simple pleasure of a good book. Literacy is at the heart of everything we do, and today was a reminder of how powerful reading can be.

From gripping novels to inspiring biographies, the range of books chosen reflected the diverse interests of the school’s students and staff. The event not only promoted reading for pleasure but also reinforced the school’s ongoing commitment to fostering a lifelong love of learning.

Stretford Grammar School is proud to support national initiatives like “Take 10 to Read” and looks forward to continuing its work in promoting literacy across all year groups.
