Stretford Grammar Celebrates the 'Year of Reading' with Bumper Scholastic Book Fair!

For the love of books!

Stretford Grammar School recently transformed its library into a literary haven, hosting a hugely successful Scholastic Book Fair. This event was a highlight of the school’s dedication to promoting literacy, especially as we celebrate the 'Year of Reading' across the school.

What is the 'Year of Reading'?

The 'Year of Reading' is a dedicated initiative at Stretford Grammar to deepen students' engagement with books and foster a lifelong love of reading. It involves various activities, workshops, and events designed to showcase the joy and benefits of literacy, underscoring the vital role reading plays in academic success and personal well-being. The Scholastic Book Fair served as a vibrant cornerstone of this year-long commitment.

A World of Books for Every Student

In conjunction with Scholastic, one of the world's leading publishers and distributors of children's books, the Book Fair offered an extensive and varied collection. All students, from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form, were given the invaluable opportunity to explore a wide range of books, ensuring there was something to capture every interest—from graphic novels and fantasy epics to non-fiction and classic literature.

The atmosphere during the four-day event was electric, with students browsing, discussing, and purchasing new reads to take home. This hands-on experience reinforces the school’s message that reading is both a core skill and an enjoyable leisure pursuit.

The Book Fair perfectly illustrates Stretford Grammar's commitment to the love of reading. The school recognises that a vibrant library is central to a student's educational journey and is proud to maintain a very active library, staffed by passionate librarians who champion reading every day.

Mrs McCarthy and Mrs Murphy, the dedicated School Librarians, expressed their enthusiasm for the event and the ongoing literacy drive:

"The Book Fair is always a fantastic opportunity to put new and exciting books directly into the hands of our students. We firmly believe that literacy is the foundation of all learning," said Mrs McCarthy.

Mrs Murphy added, "It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm. The proceeds will go straight back into new resources, further strengthening our active library and ensuring we can continue to inspire our students during this crucial 'Year of Reading' and beyond."

The success of the Scholastic Book Fair ensures the library can invest in fresh stock, keeping the collection dynamic and relevant for all students, and reinforcing the school’s unwavering dedication to fostering a community of avid readers.
