Stretford’s Cinematic Visionaries: Year 11 Premiere "Nocturne"

Creative Collaboration at its Best

A quiet revolution in student film making took place at Stretford Grammar School this February, as a collective of talented Year 11 students unveiled their ambitious creative experiment, Nocturne. The film, which premiered on 4 February 2026, was the result of months of collaboration, drawing together a diverse range of artistic disciplines within the year group.

A Collective Creative Experiment

The concept for Nocturne was sparked by Eliza, who balanced the dual responsibilities of writer and director. To bring her vision to life, she assembled a "powerhouse" team of peers, each bringing a specific expertise to the set. The production featured:

  • Lead Cast: Stephanie and Georgina, who anchored the film’s emotional narrative.
  • Technical Crew: Henry, serving as both cinematographer and editor, responsible for the film’s distinct visual language.
  • Supporting Cast: Gabriella, Faridah, Kashvi, and Xiayan, who added depth to the cinematic world.
  • Production Support: Harry, who ensured the smooth running of the "set" as the team’s dedicated runner.

The premiere was a resounding success, drawing an impressive audience of 170 attendees. Beyond the artistic achievement, the event carried a strong community spirit; all donations from the evening were contributed to the Stretford Food Bank, proving that these young filmmakers are as socially conscious as they are creative.

The Road to the Into Film Awards

Nocturne has been officially submitted to the Into Film Awards 2026, the UK’s most prestigious celebration of young film making talent.

If the team is successful in making the shortlist, they will be invited to a star-studded red-carpet ceremony at the iconic ODEON Luxe Leicester Square in London on 16 June 2026. Nominees often have their work judged by industry legends—past judges have included the likes of Eddie Redmayne and Naomie Harris. Winners not only take home a trophy but often receive film making equipment bundles, professional mentorship, and the chance to have their work showcased on the big screen to industry professionals.

The project was supported by Mr Price, who worked closely with the group to navigate the complexities of production and the awards entry process. Reflecting on the students' journey, he said:

It has been a privilege to witness the dedication of this group. Nocturne is more than just a school project; it is a professional-standard collaboration where every student played a vital role. Seeing them manage a full-scale premiere while supporting a local charity perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Stretford Grammar. We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved and have our fingers crossed for the London awards!

We wish the Nocturne team the very best of luck with their submission. Whatever the outcome, they have already made a lasting mark on the school's creative history.
