Longford Park J.F.C.

Local Football Club Pays Tribute to Mr Mullins

The past two weeks have been incredibly difficult for the Stretford Grammar School community as we come to terms with the passing of our headteacher,  Mr Mullins. In times of loss, the strength of a community is found in the support of its neighbours, and we have been deeply moved by the compassion shown by Longford Park Junior Football Club.

Mr Mullins was a passionate advocate for grassroots sport and played a vital role in the long-standing relationship between our school and Longford Park. In a touching mark of respect, the club voluntarily suspended all training and matches on our grounds following the news. The club’s founders, Colin Lowe and his son, shared a poignant message with us, expressing that they feel "forever indebted" to Michael for his unwavering support. It is heartening to know that his influence extended so far beyond our classrooms and into the local community.

Longford Park JFC has gone above and beyond to ensure Michael’s memory is honoured on the pitch. Over the coming weeks, you may notice several beautiful tributes:

  • Commemorative T-Shirts: As the club enters their upcoming cup finals, players will be wearing special commemorative shirts during their walk-outs as a mark of respect.

  • A Keepsake for the School: The club has kindly offered to present a commemorative shirt to both Michael’s family and the school—a gesture we accept with great pride.

  • Tributes in the Community: Last week, the club held a minute’s silence across all their matches and placed a club jersey at the school gates. Their social media tribute has even gained local news coverage, highlighting a side of Michael’s community work that many may not have seen.

We have given our full support for Longford Park to resume their weekend fixtures on our school pitches. We know Michael would have wanted nothing more than to see the children back out on the grass, competing with the spirit and sportsmanship he so admired.

We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to everyone at Longford Park JFC for their kindness, their tributes, and for reminding us of the profound impact one person can have on an entire community.

Our thoughts continue to be with Michael’s family and all those who knew him.
