A Lasting Tribute: Preserving the Memory of Mr Mullins

The corridors of Stretford Grammar School remain uncharacteristically quiet this week as our community continues to process the sudden and deeply felt loss of our beloved Headteacher, Mr Mullins. We are a school still in shock, navigating the grief as we come to terms with the absence of his daily presence—the warm smiles in the corridor, his unwavering support at the school gates, the words of kindness he had for all, and his dedicated leadership.
In the days following the news, the school gates were blanketed in floral tributes left by students, parents, alumni, and colleagues. To ensure that these tokens of affection do not simply fade away, our Art Department has begun a special project to transform these temporary tributes into permanent keepsakes.
From Condolence to Commemoration
Under the guidance of the Art team, students and staff are carefully pressing the flowers from the memorial displays. This meticulous process will preserve the vibrant colours and delicate shapes of the blooms, which will eventually be used to create commemorative items for staff and members of the wider school community. These pressed flowers will serve as a physical bridge to the outpouring of love shown during this difficult time, allowing us all to keep a small piece of that collective respect and memory with us.
A Word from the Art Department
Mrs Penny-Collings, Curriculum Leader for Art, who organised the initiative, shared her thoughts on why this project is so vital for the school's healing process:
The sheer volume of flowers left for Mr Mullins was a testament to the lives he touched. By pressing these blooms, we are capturing a moment of profound unity and love within our school. It is a quiet, meditative way for us to honour his legacy, ensuring that the beauty of the community's response remains a lasting comfort to us all as we grieve his passing.
Moving Forward Together
While the school community continues to miss Mr Mullins’ guidance and his familiar face around the site, projects like this remind us of the strength we find in one another. Information regarding the distribution of these memorial items will be shared in the coming weeks.
We thank everyone for their continued patience and kindness as we support our students and staff through this period of mourning.
