Year 8 and 9 Cricket – Two Wins in Two
vs Lostock – Stretford win by 53 runs
In the first game Joel led the team to their first victory in a Soft Ball Cricket Match at home. We opened the batting, scoring 105 runs with Lostock only taking two of our wickets from two catches. Excellent batting performances were displayed by Joel who retired on 25-runs and Elliot on 30 due to hitting a six on his final ball. Lostock then came in to bat who scored 52 runs for 8 wickets. Wicket-taking bowling was displayed by Umar, Arunraj and Akash.
vs Urmston Grammar – Stretford win by 53 runs again
Finally, a win for the Stretford! In the last five years, the Year 8 and 9 Cricket team have fallen short to triumphant Urmston Grammar performances until recently. An outstanding batting partnership was seen by Isaac (opening batsman) and Mustafa (third batsman) who both retired on 27 runs after driving the ball to the boundary several times. Shortly after, Dylan retired on 25 runs, and Dresden came in at eight to a secure 17 runs for the team. Captain Joel bowled perfectly taking as many as four wickets during Urmston’s innings, this was aided by excellent wicket keeping from Elliot. A great fielding performance at long stop by Umar denied Urmston several times from scoring four-runs from byes from fast bowling.
Onwards to the next matches and maybe another against Urmston.
