Stretford Grammar School Sports Day Success

Longford Park hosted the Stretford Grammar School annual sports day on Friday 19th June. Bright sunshine and excellent weather set the stage for a fantastic day of competition across all year groups. Students displayed great determination, teamwork and athletic skill throughout the track and field events.

Track Events

The track action began with the 100m sprints. In Year 7, Luca and Matylda secured victories, whilst Hugo and Cece took the honours for Year 8. Year 9 saw wins from Promise and Shams, followed by Macauley and Tomisin in Year 10. Seyi and Aleena rounded off the 100m events with wins for Year 12.

In the 200m, Jacob and Florence led the way for Year 7. Nathan and Matilda won for Year 8, with Elliot and Evie taking first place for Year 9. Tomisin earned another victory alongside Michael in Year 10, while Seyi and Lorena triumphed for Year 12.

The 300m and 400m races required great stamina. Joe and Gabriella won the Year 7 races, Sanyar and Irene took Year 8, and Theo and Evie crossed the line first for Year 9. Year 10 saw a joint victory for Eli and Abdulrazak in the boys' race, with Isla winning the girls' event. Arios and Georgia secured the wins for Year 12.

In the middle-distance events, the 800m winners were Henry and Betsy (Year 7), Omar and Katrina (Year 8), Paddy and Maddie (Year 9), Aaron and Isla (Year 10), and Robert and Georgia (Year 12). The challenging 1500m races saw fantastic efforts, with top spots going to Jackson and Amelie (Year 7), Muhannad and Esme (Year 8), Daniel and Glorianna (Year 9), Rafi and Isla (Year 10), and Herbie and Niamh (Year 12).

The 4x100m relays brought immense excitement. Form groups 7R, 7E, 8R, 8S, 9T, 9O, 10R, 10O, 12S and 12O all celebrated victories.

Field Events

The field events showcased a high level of technique. In the High Jump, Henry, Molly, Sean, Cece, Sam, Isabella, Alex, Isabel, Seyi and Niamh all cleared the bar to take wins for their respective year groups.

The Long Jump saw impressive distances from Jan, Florence, Muhannad, Katrina, Tom, Maddie, Leo, Lauren, Joe and Lorena. In the Triple Jump, Henry, Elsie, Theo, Matilda, Promise, Iris, James, Maali and Atticus secured first-place finishes.

In the throwing events, Discus victories went to Elijah, Sofia, Ahmad, Aroush, Johnny, Isabella, Richard, Darcey, Aleksander and Lana. Shot Put winners included Hisham, Hallela, Suleman, Bodhita, Johnny, Isabella, Sylas, Darcey, Muhammad and Abrar. Javelin titles went to Kasper, Betsy, Omar, Dania, Daniel, Amelia, Alex, Eva, Zayn and Laura.

Tug of War

The day concluded with the traditional Tug of War, which tested the pure strength and unity of the form groups. The boys' competitions went to 7S, 8O, 9R and 10R. The girls' titles went to 7O, 8T, 9R and 10R. In the mixed category, 7R, 8T, 9R and 12O pulled their way to success.
