SGS 6th Formers Champion 'Aspirations Week' at Gorse Hill Primary

Sixth Form students from Stretford Grammar School visited Gorse Hill Primary School on Wednesday 24th June to spearhead the primary school’s annual "Aspirations Week." The event marked the latest chapter in a partnership between the two local schools, aimed at broadening horizons and fostering aspirations among Gorse Hill’s young learners.
Lighting the Spark for the Future
During the day, the Sixth Formers took to the classrooms to deliver talks about their own educational journeys, their A-Level subjects, and their career blueprints for the future—ranging from medicine and engineering to the creative arts. The Gorse Hill pupils, brimming with curiosity, quizzed the older students during Q&A sessions. The exchange gave the primary children a glimpse into high school life and the world of higher education and future careers.
Mrs Carter, Assistant Director of Sixth Form at Stretford Grammar, expressed pride in how her students conducted themselves as role models.
"Our Sixth Formers enjoyed sharing their experiences and career ambitions with the children at Gorse Hill," Mrs Carter said. "Aspirations Week is a fantastic initiative, and seeing our students inspire the next generation to aim high—while answering some insightful questions—was a highlight for us. It is rewarding to watch these young leaders give back to our local community."
A Harmonious Partnership
The visit is part of a connection between the two educational institutions. The bond between Stretford Grammar and Gorse Hill Primary extends beyond career mentoring into the arts. As part of their ongoing collaborative links, Gorse Hill pupils visit Stretford Grammar to use their specialist facilities, most notably joining together for Steel Pan music lessons. This musical exchange has proven successful in building confidence, teamwork, and cultural enrichment across both age groups.
Reflecting on the success of Wednesday's event and the broader relationship between the schools, Mr Gleaves, teacher at Gorse Hill Primary, emphasised the impact of peer-to-peer inspiration.
"We are delighted with the links we have forged with Stretford Grammar School," said Mr Gleaves. "Whether our pupils head over there to master the Steel Pans, or welcome their Sixth Formers into our classrooms for Aspirations Week, the impact is invaluable. Hearing from young people who navigate their education gives our pupils a sense of what they can achieve with hard work and determination."
