Welcome to our School

Year 6 Experience Life at SGS During Transition Induction Day

Stretford Grammar School opened its doors today to welcome the upcoming cohort of Year 6 students for their official induction day. The event is designed to introduce the children to the school environment, familiarise them with the campus layout, and allow them to forge connections with their new peers ahead of the academic year in September.

The prospective students participated in a packed itinerary to sample the daily routine of senior school. The day commenced with taster lessons in English and Mathematics, giving the children a flavour of the academic curriculum.

Beyond the classroom, the school organised circus skills workshops and a series of ice-breaker activities. These sessions took place within form groups, allowing students to invest time in getting to know their new classmates and their form tutors. Pupils also completed guided tours to locate key areas of the school site, ensuring they feel confident navigating the corridors on their first day.

A vital component of the day's success was the contribution of current Year 7 students, who were selected to assist with the induction. These pupils remained alongside the visitors throughout the activities, offering a warm welcome, sharing their own experiences, and guiding the primary school pupils through their transition.

Before departure, the Year 6 students received their summer homework assignments, which are structured to prepare them for the academic transition in September.

Miss King, Year 7 Progress Leader, praised the engagement of the new cohort and the support of the student helpers:

"Transition day is a milestone for these young people. Today is about removing the anxiety of the unknown, building early friendships, and igniting excitement for the journey ahead at Stretford Grammar. The energy and maturity displayed by the students today suggests a fantastic start to their secondary education. Our current Year 7 assistants deserve immense credit; their warmth, leadership, and reassurance made our guests feel at home from the moment they arrived."

The induction process continues into the evening, with parents and carers invited to the school to meet senior staff and form tutors, ensuring families are equally supported in the transition to Stretford Grammar School.
