The Politics Project

Year 8 were recently given the opportunity to get involved with the Politics Project

The aim of the project is to facilitate meaningful discussions between young people and politicians through ‘digital surgeries’.  Following discussion across the whole of year 8 in PSHCE lessons, a delegation of year 8s selected the topic of road safety as their key issue, and focussed particularly on how all the road crossings into school could be improved and made safer.  Students designed, scripted and filmed a brilliant presentation which they delivered to Councillor Catherine Hynes, Deputy Leader of Trafford Council, and to Karen Samples, Trafford Director of Education.  They outlined the problem and offered a number of practical (and fully costed) solutions for the issue.

The year 8 students also took part in an interesting discussion about how politicians can improve young people’s mental health in the borough.  All the students involved contributed to the presentation and to the discussion, which they enjoyed and felt was a meaningful and valuable experience.
