Year 8 Theatre Trip - The Woman in Black

Year 8 students visited Stoke's Regent Theatre

On 29th September the English department took the majority of Year 8 to Stoke for an afternoon of top class theatre! Susan Hill's acclaimed ghost story, The Woman in Black, came alive in the ornate Regent Theatre in the heart of the city. Our students thoroughly enjoyed Stephen Mallatratt's ingenious adaptation. The set was a visual delight as the two actors switched roles in what proved to be a challenging theatrical tour de force! After a steady start establishing the characters the play exploded with visuals and dramatic shocking sounds that had the whole audience on the edge of their seats. At one point the theatre was engulfed in a huge cloud of dry ice mist, echoing the eerie atmosphere of both the novel and the famous film adaptation.

Our students said that they loved the atmosphere of a live event and the staff were also impressed with their fantastic behaviour. Mrs Baxter commented "It was a pleasure to be on the theatre trip with Year 8 yesterday. They were all incredibly well-behaved and are an absolute credit to Mr. Crowley and the school".

The English department are planning further theatre trips for the other year groups.
