Government and Politics

"Education is the point at which we decide whether we love the world enough to assume responsibility for it..."
Hannah Arendt
Our Curriculum
In Government and Politics, we offer students a rich and intellectually challenging curriculum that develops their understanding of political systems, power and participation. Students explore how governments operate, how decisions are made, and the extent to which citizens can influence political outcomes. Through engaging debate, analysis and evaluation, students develop a sophisticated understanding of the political world around them and the issues shaping contemporary society.
Getting Better at Government and Politics
In Year 12, students begin by developing a secure understanding of the core institutions, processes and ideas that underpin politics in the UK and USA. As they progress through the course, students become increasingly confident in analysing evidence, evaluating competing viewpoints and constructing well-reasoned arguments. They learn to apply political concepts to contemporary events and develop the essay-writing skills needed to communicate complex ideas with precision. Throughout the course, students receive clear feedback and support that enables them to think critically, work independently and achieve academic excellence.
Beyond School
Politics shapes every aspect of society, from the laws we live under to the rights and freedoms we enjoy. We aim to develop informed, engaged and reflective citizens who can participate confidently in democratic life. Students gain valuable skills in communication, analysis, research and critical thinking that prepare them for higher education, employment and active citizenship. By studying Government and Politics, students broaden their understanding of the world and their role within it.
